Nas Drops Controversial Song “Be A Ni**er Too”

The single “Be A Ni**er Too” is the first official release from Nas’ album, which has drawn intense scrutiny due to the album’s simple, yet controversial title.

The lyrics on “Be A Ni**er Too” gives listeners a glimpse into the direction Nas’ album may take.

On the track, which was produced by Salaam Remi and Big Jack, Nas makes his stance on the N-word clear through his lyrics and a slowed down delivery.

“The real Ni**ers are back on the radio,” Nas says, before launching into his verse.

“Not mad cause Eminem said Ni**er/Cause he’s my Ni**er/Wigger/Cracker friend/We all black within/ We all African within/Some African’s don’t like us no way/A killin happened in Johannesburg yesterday.”

In a song that could be a lighting rod for controversy, Nas references the tragic murder of reggae star Lucky Dube in Johannesburg in October of 2007 and in the same line, name check’s the NAACP.

The hook for the song is a play on Dr. Pepper’s famous “Wouldn’t You Like to Be a Pepper Too” advertising slogan.
“I’m a Ni**er/He’s a Ni**er/she’s a Ni**er /we’s some Ni**ers/wouldn’t you like to be a Ni**er too,” Nas raps.

On the rest of the chorus, Nas name check’s Jews (Kike Ni**ers), Hispanics (Spic Ni**ers), Italians (Guinea Ni**ers) and Asians (Chink Ni**ers), by using their respective racial epitaphs and embraces them as his Ni**ers.

“They like to strangle Ni**ers/blame a Ni**ers/shoot a Ni**er/hang a Ni**er/still you wanna be a Ni**er too?/True.”

Nas’ upcoming album Ni**er is due in stores this year on Island Def Jam, a unit of Universal Music Group.

  1. well well well, Nasir Jones. in early rap diction, the reason for droppin N**ga in rap verses was always attributed to the need to desensitice the derogatory meaning of the word for the youth.

it is thus not suprising that making mention of the N word in such a manner as to stire up controvercy is not a fisrt for rap. infact earlier on this year ill Bill, former member of the now defucnt rap group Non-Phixion released an album entitled La coca Nostra… seeing that Ill bill is a caucasian the release of the song “white Ni**a” on the album saw him burnt at the stake by album critics and music consumers alike.

will Nas face the same rebuke? i dont know, what i do know is that hes got some gonnads for sayin whats on the minds of many people, people who arent brave enuf to say what they shy away from but always think about…cant wait for the LP to drop. SAN

  2. dats t san

  3. hip hop is about expression of the self. language has neva been a problem and if Nas wanna cal his song nigger let him call it that. this is the same with zubz’ song he’s not promoting violence wat he’s doing is shwoing the government that people are killing each other and sumthing should be done about that…soon. if u listen 2 da lyrics Nas mentions the late Lucky Dube and that niggas are killing other niggas

who is holding dat panga? its a black person n he’s gonna kill his own. if people are not allowed to express themselves then they might as well kill hip hop…i’m tired of hearing how shortey’s gonna dip it low…its about tym we face real issues man
